We’re excited to introduce a major quality-of-life improvement to the registration system in V2! One of the most common challenges players face is knowing exactly what color or pattern to register their horse under. Since Legacy Horse Game aims to be both educational and fun, we’ve reworked the registration system to make it more intuitive, accurate, and user-friendly—while also reducing the overwhelming number of possible registration combinations.
How the New System Works
Instead of manually selecting the final coat color and pattern name, players will now input key genetic and phenotypic traits, and the game will generate the correct registration name automatically.
Here’s an example:
For a Sooty Buckskin Tobiano, the player would select:
- Base Color → Bay
- Dilutions → Cream
- Modifiers → Sooty
- Patterns → Tobiano
The system will then register the horse as Sooty Buckskin Tobiano without requiring the player to guess the correct name.
A Mix of Genetics & Visual Traits

Genetically determined traits such as dilutions (cream, pearl, silver, champagne) and testable patterns (tobiano, frame, leopard complex, etc.) will be able to be populated based on the horse’s genetics.
Visually determined traits like sooty, dappling, flaxen, and other modifiers cannot be genetically tested and will need to be selected based on the horse’s visual appearance.
Leopard patterns will work a bit differently—since leopard complex expresses in many ways, players will select the specific pattern type from a dropdown menu with the following options:
- Fewspot
- Snowflake
- Snowcap
- Blanket
- Near Leopard
- Leopard
Why This Change Matters
This update will:
- Make registration easier by eliminating guesswork
- Improve accuracy and prevent incorrect registrations
- Reduce the overwhelming number of registration options while still allowing for detailed and realistic coat recognition
- Help educate players about how coat colors and patterns are formed in a more interactive way
We’re excited to bring this more structured, intuitive registration system to V2, and we can’t wait for you to try it out!
